Frequently asked questions
Q: what documents are needed to cross the border?
A: Both you and your co-driver will need a valid passport and driver’s license. Your vehicle must have current registration and valid U.S. insurance. Additionally, Mexico auto insurance is required. We recommend RIDE Baja Insurance and are happy to help you set that up if needed.
Q: Is Baja California safe?
A: The short answer is yes! Our top priority is ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. Your safety largely depends on you and your driving experience, so it’s essential to operate within your comfort level and skill. This is the best way to ensure a smooth and successful trip for the whole group.
As for concerns about traveling in Mexico, I can speak from personal experience: I’ve never felt unsafe in Baja. I’ve never encountered harassment from local officials or had issues crossing borders or checkpoints. We make it a point to show respect when traveling through small communities and ranchos by minimizing our dust and being mindful of our surroundings. In return, the locals are incredibly welcoming and supportive of the off-road community. It’s not uncommon to see kids running toward your truck, thrilled at the chance to grab a sticker or high-five!
Q: what if i don’t have any offroad experience?
A: We welcome drivers of all skill levels to join our adventures. These runs aren’t about racing or driving as fast as possible—though you might find yourself in an impromptu drag race across a dry lake bed now and then! Our focus is on driving within the current allowable trail/road conditions to keep things safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Most of the trails we explore are dirt roads that even substantially less capable vehicles can handle. We don’t tolerate speed shaming, and our goal is for everyone to leave with more confidence, new skills, and a better understanding of their vehicle by the end of the run.
Q: Are Baja Ram runs exclusive to Trx/rhos only?
A: While these runs are geared toward the Mopar crowd, they’re definitely not exclusive! If our adventure style appeals to you, we’d be thrilled to have you join us. Just keep in mind that we’ll only be carrying common stock replacement parts specifically for the TRX/RHO platform, so plan accordingly if you’re driving a different make or model.
Q: does my truck need any modifications?
A: Stock trucks are just fine! While your TRX/RHO is more than capable of handling the terrain without any modifications, we do require a few additional safety items to ensure everyone’s well-being on the trail. Check out the list below for details.
Required gear:
50-watt VHF radio
Mechanically sound truck. Feel free to reach out with any questions—I’m here to help!
Cargo securement system
Amber rear-facing dust light(s)
Recovery straps/kinetic rope
Fire extinguisher
Suggested Gear:
Navigation app (Gaia, Leadnav, OnX) or navigation unit (Lowrance, Garmin Tread)
Second full-size spare tire
Off-road floor jack
Auxiliary front offroad lights
Cooler
Q: What if my truck has a mechanical failure?
A: We strongly encourage everyone to operate within both their truck’s mechanical limits and their own driving abilities. That said, sometimes “Baja happens.” We come prepared with tools and common stock replacement parts to assist with on-trail repairs if needed.
If a repair isn’t possible with the resources we have on hand, we can help coordinate a tow using the towing assistance included with your RIDE Baja full-coverage insurance policy (up to $1,000). Rest assured, we’ll never leave anyone behind. We believe overcoming challenges together builds camaraderie and creates unforgettable stories you’ll be telling for years to come.
Q: what if there is an emergency?
A: We carry multiple satellite communication devices to ensure we’re prepared to provide support in any situation that requires additional assistance.
Q: How many passengers can I take?
A: The price per truck includes yourself and one passenger. If you are interested in bringing additional passengers please reach out for a quote which will provide pricing to reflect additional meals, lodging, and logistics.
Q: Are these runs kid-friendly?
A: Currently, the age limit for our runs is 16 years and older. Please check back for future family-style runs catered more toward the junior Baja explorer.
Q: can i bring my dog?
A: Unfortunately, we don’t allow dogs on our runs. With potential challenges like border crossing paperwork issues or the risk of a snake bite, we believe avoiding these complications is the best way to ensure a safe and seamless experience for the entire group.
